About 200 people have relocated to the Pittsburgh area from New Orleans and other communities affected by Hurricane Katrina last fall.

Since the hurricane, many agencies and individuals have reached out to help the individuals and families now living in our region who were dislocated by the storm. These include Allegheny County Department of Human Services, the Pittsburgh Project, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Urban League, North Hills Community Outreach, Jewish Family and Children's Services, and Catholic Charities.

Family Resources has become involved, especially in helping the families create a support network for themselves. The network, called The Gulf Coast Connection, will sponsor regular meetings that make it easier for people to share experiences and provide practical and emotional support to one another.
