Injuring a child physically or sexually, or neglecting a child's basic needs, is difficult for most people to fathom. Most people can't believe that these things happen every day. Yet thousands of children in our region do experience abuse and most of these children are injured by a family member or someone else close to them. None of us need to look far to see the consequences of child abuse and neglect. Most of us need merely to look in our own neighborhood. Child abuse happens everywhere, without regard for race, religion, social class, or a parent's level of education. All children are vulnerable.
