Child abuse happens in families that tend to be socially and emotionally isolated. Parents may be inundated with challenging, stressful events. They do not cope well and tend not to ask for help. The Family Retreat Center is an effective therapeutic resource in our work with highly stressed families. Using a natural, wooded setting, programming at the Family Retreat Center is designed to rebuild networks of support for families and community groups, relieving the emotional isolation that contributes to child abuse.
