Economic Empowerment Initiative
Motivated to become self-sufficient, but not sure where to begin, families and older teens can have a difficult time building stable lives. Now they can learn how benefits and finances work, and how to become part of the system, through the Economic Empowerment Initiative (EEI).
Applying for public benefits is quick and easy through EEI’s online Benefit Bank® system. We can help you apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or food stamps; Cash and Medical Assistance; the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program and Dollar Energy assistance; or the Pennsylvania Property Tax and Rent Rebate. You can even register to vote.
When you need information, we can show you how to build a savings account or get credit to buy the car you need for work. And we can tell you how to find scholarships, housing, and employment opportunities, too.
If you need a “bridge to banking,” we can help you develop and follow a household budget; learn how to avoid predatory lending and cash services; understand the benefits of checking, savings, or credit union accounts; or connect with supportive local banks where you can get a fresh start. And at tax time, you can prepare and file your federal, state, and local income taxes free through our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
Our staff will help you find out which programs you qualify for or where you can turn for further assistance. We can help you get started on a better future for your family and yourself.
